External sector: Tourism earnings fall 11.7% y-o-y in 1H

Sri Lanka’s tourism earnings in the first half of 2026 (January to June) declined by 11.7%  in comparison to the same time period in 2025, posting a total of $ 1,511.1 million, Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) shows.

Sri Lanka posted a total of $ 1,712.6 million in tourism earnings, during the same period last year. Tourism earnings also declined on a monthly basis. While the country earned $ 155.7 million from tourism in May 2026, the figure fell to $ 151.1 million in June. 

Compared to June 2025, tourism revenue also recorded a year-on-year decline. The Central Bank noted that Sri Lanka earned $ 169.5 million from tourism in June last year.
