The Election Commission (EC) met this morning (18) to discuss the Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill, which was passed in Parliament yesterday (17).

The Commission has yet to receive the official Gazette notification from the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government.

Accordingly, once the Gazette is received, the EC will determine the date for the Local Government Elections.

The Speaker announced in Parliament today that he has endorsed the bill.
