- PAFFREL cites appointments, transfers, promotions, removals, goods distributions
Leading elections monitor, the People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) has directed the Election Commission’s (EC) attention to a number of Election-related incidents of violence and electoral law and rules related violations that have taken place in the context of the upcoming Presidential Election.
Thus far, the PAFFREL has recorded one case of Election violence with regard to the recent attack on a United National Party office in Dambulla, and around 50-60 cases of Election-related violations. PAFFREL’s Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi explained to The Daily Morning that election law violations reported during this period include various appointments, transfers, promotions, the distribution of goods, and removals from positions.
Adding that most of these incidents have been reported to the EC, Hettiarachchi emphasised that Election related violence and law violations will continue to be monitored.
Attempts made yesterday (5) to contact the Police Media Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General of Police Ruwan Gunasekara and the EC to inquire about Election law violations were not successful.
