Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa has stated that he is willing to remain in prison for up to 500 days if it brings economic relief to the public and helps protect the country’s cultural heritage.
In a statement issued ahead of the 50th day of his imprisonment, Rajapaksa criticised the Government over the cost of living, stating that the public had not received relief despite claims about the country’s financial position.
He listed potential benefits, including lower electricity bills and fuel prices, salary increases, interest-free loans and reduced prices of essential goods.
Rajapaksa also referred to the death of tusker Kawanthissa and called for the protection of Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage. He expressed confidence that the courts would eventually acquit him.
