Breeda Jayasuriya, the mother of ex-Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya, has passed away at the age of 80, The Daily Morning Sports learns sorrowfully.
She had died in a private hospital in Matara, her hometown, according to family sources.
Jayasuriya is currently in the US with the national team serving as a consultant coach at the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
He is expected to rush back home in the wake of his mother’s bereavement and it was confirmed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Breeda Jayasuriya was known for her unstinted support of her son’s stellar cricket career, which saw him rise to international fame till his retirement from the game in 2011.
The funeral is to be held on Wednesday (5) in Matara.
