An audit report has revealed that the Road Development Authority (RDA) lost over Rs. 4.614 billion in expressway revenue due to ticket irregularities from November 2019 to July 2024.

More than 133.8 million entry tickets were issued during the period, while exit tickets were not issued for over 18.2 million vehicles, resulting in an estimated daily revenue loss of nearly Rs. 1 million.

The audit also found that 241,964 tickets had been issued with altered vehicle classifications.

It further noted that expressways had obtained Rs. 611.374 billion in local and foreign loans, while their average annual net profit was Rs. 3.56 billion.

Based on this figure, the audit stated that repaying the principal alone would take more than 171 years.
