MI dominate El Clasico with commanding chase against CSK

Mumbai Indians (MI) stormed back to winning ways with a resounding 9-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 38 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Opting to bowl first, MI capitalised on disciplined bowling and a late surge from their batters to chase down CSK’s target with 26 balls to spare. The win not only avenged their earlier defeat to CSK this season but also significantly improved their net run rate in the race for playoffs.

CSK struggled to accelerate early, reaching just 16/0 in 3 overs before Ashwani Kumar dismissed Rachin Ravindra. 17-year-old debutant Ayush Mhatre then provided a brief spark with a quickfire 32 off 15 balls. A steady 90-run stand between Shivam Dube (50) and Ravindra Jadeja (53*) lifted CSK to a competitive 176/5, despite Jasprit Bumrah’s late double strike.

Accordingly, in response, MI openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton gave the hosts a flying start, adding 62 runs in the powerplay. After Rickelton's dismissal for 24, Suryakumar Yadav joined Rohit to deliver a masterclass in T20 batting. Rohit remained unbeaten on 76 off 45 deliveries, while Suryakumar blazed his way to 68* off 30 balls, as the duo shared an unbroken 114-run partnership.

The emphatic win marked MI’s fourth of the season and injected fresh momentum into their campaign.
