The national rugby selectors have selected prolific St. Peter’s left-wing Vishenka Silva to head the 12-member Sri Lanka Under-18 squad for the Asian Under-18 Sevens tournament which is scheduled to be held from 28-29 September in Malaysia.
Silva was the leading try-scorer in the concluded 2024 Schools Rugby League and Knockout tournaments for champions Petes who retained the League title but were pipped to the post in the Knockout final by Isipathana.
Thrinethra Dodangoda (Isipathana) has been appointed as Vishenka Silva’s deputy for the two-day tournament by the Sudath Sampath-led selection panel.
The final squad is made up of three players each from St. Peter’s and President’s Trophy champions Isipathana, while Royal, Wesley, Trinity, Dharmaraja, Zahira, and DS have a player each being represented.
The Sri Lanka squad will be coached by Rajeev Perera while SLSRFA Secretary Manuja Nimmana will be the Manager. Kamal Jayatillake is the High Performance Manager and Shafin Majid is the Physiotherapist.
Meanwhile, according to reliable sources, Trinity’s Shan Althaf won’t be travelling due to medical concerns.
