President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today (08) highlighted the urgent need to strengthen and digitalise the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) to align with Sri Lanka’s strategic digital economy objectives by 2030.

During a high-level meeting at the Presidential Secretariat, discussions centred around modernising the existing Revenue Administration Management Information System (RAMIS) and identifying its technological shortcomings. The goal is to minimise tax irregularities, simplify processes, and introduce digital tools such as Point of Sale (POS) machines.

The President emphasised that digital transformation is vital to improving tax transparency and expanding the country’s tax base. IRD officials noted that the creation of the Ministry of Digital Economy provides the institutional backing needed for this transition.

Senior officials from the IRD, Finance Ministry, and Digital Economy Ministry, including Presidential Advisor Hans Wijesuriya, attended the meeting to chart a roadmap for effective implementation.
