MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam raised concerns in Parliament over the depreciation of the Sri Lankan Rupee, rising living costs and increasing economic pressure on the public.

In a statement posted on X, he noted that the rupee had weakened significantly against the US Dollar since January and warned of growing pressure from inflation, fuel prices and electricity costs.

He also called on the government to introduce relief measures for affected families and requested President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to convene an All-Party Conference on the economy.

Rasamanickam further stated that the opposition does not want Sri Lanka to face another economic collapse and stressed the importance of collective political engagement.
