The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) lifeguard unit rescued five local youths from drowning during a lifesaving operation carried out at Mount Lavinia beach on 28 June 2026.
The rescued individuals, all aged 18, were from Nawala, Koswaththa, and Rajagiriya. Quick action by the lifeguards prevented a potential tragedy.
According to official records, since 2010 the Coast Guard lifesaving teams have rescued a total of 2,649 people, including 1,237 foreign nationals, as of 28 June 2026.
