The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has taken control of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha following its success in the 2025 Local Government (LG) Elections.

SJB candidate Kasun Munasinghe was elected Chairman during the council’s inaugural session, after securing a majority of votes.
