The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) trade unions will begin the third phase of their ongoing protest at midnight on Sunday(21).

According to Kosala Abeysinghe, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Electricity Board Technicians’ Association, this phase will last until Wednesday(24), with further action to be decided after that.

Abeysinghe stated that the escalation is a response to the "arrogance" of the minister and director general, warning that if the government continues to ignore their demands, they will be "compelled to escalate matters further."

The unions' protest began with a work-to-rule campaign on 4 September, and the second phase involved employees taking sick leave on 17 and 18 September. 

Abeysinghe emphasized that this new phase will be a "decisive moment" for the energy sector.
