The Rajapaksa brothers , including former Presidents Mahinda and Gotabaya, as well as former MPs Basil and Chamal Rajapaksa, has announced they will not contest the upcoming 2024 General Election. 

Former minister Namal Rajapaksa will lead the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s (SLPP) campaign and serve as a National List nominee. 

The election is scheduled for 14 November.
