The Supreme Court (SC) yesterday (9) dismissed an appeal filed by former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, affirming a previous court order directing him to pay Rs 1 million in compensation to Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva for violating his intellectual property (IP) rights.

The appeal was filed challenging a ruling by the Colombo Commercial High Court, which had held that certain content published in Weerawansa’s book ‘Naththa Wenuwata Aththa’ had infringed upon Silva’s intellectual property rights.

With the dismissal of the appeal, the SC upheld the Commercial High Court’s decision, confirming the compensation order against Weerawansa.
