The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) reports a significant increase in dengue cases in January 2026 compared to the same period last year.

Acting Director Kapila Kannangara said 6,521 cases have been reported so far this month, up from 4,970 cases in January 2025.

The highest number of cases was recorded in Colombo District (1,627), followed by Gampaha District (971).
