Showers will occur at times in the Central, Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts today (13), the Department of Meteorology said.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa, Nuwara Eliya, Matale and Polonnaruwa districts. Several spells of showers are also expected in the Northern Province and in the Anuradhapura district.
Showers or thundershowers may develop at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m., with fairly heavy falls above 50 mm likely in parts of the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts.
Misty conditions can be expected in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
