Former MP and Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) leader Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, alias Pillayan, was arrested by Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officials in Batticaloa over the 2006 enforced disappearance of a university vice-chancellor in the Eastern Province. 

He is currently being transported to Colombo for further investigations.
