The Cabinet has approved a proposal to call for investor submissions for the development of the old Bogambara Prison site in Kandy on a 50-year lease basis.

The 19th-century prison premises, now under the Urban Development Authority (UDA), are located within a key utility zone in the Kandy Municipal Council Area and are recognized as heritage structures with strong tourism potential.

Investors are encouraged to submit projects that offer financial, environmental, and social value, in line with the UDA’s 2021–2030 development plan.
