A 12-member expert committee has been appointed to oversee the cleanup of Beira Lake and propose development plans, Minister Anura Karunathilaka announced. 

With 21 sewage channels polluting the lake, efforts are underway to stop the inflow this year. 

The committee will implement global best practices to tackle algae growth and improve water quality.
