Treasury Secretary S.R. Attygalle tendered his resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday (5) shortly after the resignation of the newly appointed Minister of Finance Ali Sabry.
Attygalle was appointed as Secretary to the Treasury on 20 November 2019. Prior to his appointment as Secretary to the Treasury, he served as a Deputy Secretary to the Treasury since 2013. Attygalle is also a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) and had been on release to the Treasury since 2003.
Attygalle has over 25 years of experience in the formulation of both fiscal and monetary policy, having served in many positions including as Director General of both the Department of Fiscal Policy and Department of Public Enterprises. He has also served as the Chairman of National Savings Bank (NSB) during the period 31 January 2009 to 7 May 2010 and has also represented the Treasury on the boards of several key state-owned enterprises (SEOs) and statutory boards including the Bank of Ceylon (BOC), NSB, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Pvt.) Ltd. (AASL), Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC), and Insurance Board of Sri Lanka (IBSL).
