The Minister of Education Prof. GL Peiris stated in Parliament today (22) that there are two options among the decisions that the government intends to take regarding the Batticaloa campus.

Accordingly, the first option is to maintain it as a campus of the Kotelawala Defense University, he said.

The other option is to run the institute as a State University, he said.

The Minister said that he was optimistic that 100 medical students would be admitted to the Kotelawala Defense University and that it was very important to provide facilities for that university.

The Minister said that the Batticaloa Campus has very valuable resources which are not found even in the University of Peradeniya.

The Minister said that 30,000 were recruited to universities last year and this year 41,500 will be recruited.

Accordingly, special attention has been paid to the takeover of Batticaloa Campus by the Government, said the Minister of Education Prof. GL Peiris.

Meanwhile, answering a question raised by Parliamentarian Dr. Kavinda Jayawardena in Parliament yesterday (21), the Minister said that the institution has not been approved for awarding degrees.
