11 Mar 2022

BY Ruwani Fonseka Being a founding member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and being denied his right to speak in Parliament is wrong, says Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila. Speaking to The Morning, Gammanpila revealed that he believes that the ethics of the Party have now been compromised and is leading to the downfall of the Government. "I was denied my right to speak as a Member of Parliament in the House today. When I brought this up with the Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando, he told me that he will look into the matter. A little while later, a person from his office came and told me that he was unable to add me to the list of speeches for today. I was the Minister of Energy until just last week, and I am still an MP. 136,331 people voted me into Parliament and denying my right to talk is wrong for them as well," said Gammanpila. Gammanpila expressed that denying his right to speak is a reflection of the ethics, principals and gratitude the Party has towards the people that brought the Government to power.
