The British & Irish Lions, who are to begin their tour of South Africa under Warren Gatland, for a series of three Test series beat Japan 28-10 in Murrayfield, Scotland on Saturday (26).
Josh Adams put the home side in the lead when he stepped inside the cover defence from close range and dived over in the right side corner. Duhan van der Merwe then went over when he sprinted down the touchline after taking the ball from an unmanned ruck. Robbie Henshaw was over shortly after, for the third try as he took a short pass from Ireland national team-mate Conor Murray from a line-out.
However, Lions were unable to pile up more points in the first half.

In the second half, they were sloppy in the final third as they missed out on two clear opportunities when Liam Williams knocked on closer to the try-line and Courtney Lawes lost control trying to place the ball on the line. Eight minutes into the second half, Tadhg Beirne eventually touched down after he took a flat pass from Biggar in midfield and sprinted through a gap to score under the posts.
Japan were finally on the board with 20 minutes remaining as Kazuki Himeno took the ball at the back of a line-out and carried the ball over the line.
Yu Tamura converted and added a penalty soon after to put some respect into the score-line. Despite the comfortable win for the Lions, their Skipper Alun Wyn Jones departed the field with just seven minutes on the clock.
He appeared to have picked up an injury as he was pushed out at a ruck while trying to steal the ball. He was closely followed by Justin Tipuric, who was hurt in a tackle and replaced by Taulupe Faletau.
The Lions will now leave to Johannesburg to begin their tour of South Africa. Warren Gatland’s side will play the four franchises in United Rugby Championship - the Lions, Sharks, Bulls and Stormers.
They will also play South Africa ‘A’ before taking on the world champion Springboks in a three-Test series.
