Budget doesn’t pay enough attention to the poor: Eran

The Budget 2021 has not paid enough attention to the poor or the middle class, Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Eran Wickramaratne said.

Speaking in parliament, the MP said they were against the proposed taxes since those who are vulnerable would not receive any benefit from them.

“Taxes should be collected to empower those who are vulnerable and those with special needs. Infrastructure development are being carried out from the tax payers’ money but it is mostly the businessmen who benefit from these development projects,” he said.

He said there is a Social Contract where those who are being governed must be protected by those who govern.

The MP also said the country doesn’t need dual citizens in Parliament as they tend to leave the country when things go wrong.
