Former President and MP Mathripala Sirisena said today the government has put forward several proposals in the Budget 2021 to eradicate poverty.
During the today’s debate on the budget, the former President said the
poverty was a result of various economic policies that have been implemented for over 25 years in the country.
He said the difficulties faced by the farmers and labourers need to be considered when it comes to finding solutions to eradicate poverty.
“It appears the budget has several mid-term and long-term solutions to address these issues. The proposals on rural industries development and providing drinking water to all are vital,” he said.
