Cabinet approves to establish a Weapons Museum
The Cabinet has given approval for the establishment of a Weapons Museum to conserve and secure ancient weapons as well as modern weaponry.
The approval was granted to establish a respective unit for the conservation of the weaponry within an appropriate museum controlled under the Department of National Museums at present.
The proposal in this regard was submitted by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The government said it has been identified to implement a formal programme for the collection, conserving, maintaining and securing the ancient weapons including the stone age
weapons unearthed from the archaeological excavations, the weapons used in the ancient times but are being dilapidated by now, as well as modern weaponry.
