Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga said in parliament today that the same health regulations cannot be imposed on both migrant workers and tourists.
He elaborated that this was because the tourists will only be travelling to selected places as groups while migrant workers will be integrated into society after their arrival.
Further, he stated that the tourists were in the island for a limited period of time, whereas migrant workers will stay in the country.
The Minister stated that the health regulations for migrant workers will be more extended and have more steps to ascertain that they do not pose a threat to society.
