Chandana Amaratunga to lead JASTECA to new heights

The Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA), the sole alumni association of the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) for Sri Lanka, held its 36th Annual General Meeting on Friday, 16 September at Galadari Hotel, Colombo.

JASTECA holds the prestige of being the bridge and catalyst in transferring Japanese technology systems to local institutions and organisations. 

A new Executive Committee was inducted to serve the legacy of JASTECA for another two consecutive years, with Chandana Amaratunga at the helm as the President from 2022 to 2024. Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka Mizukoshi Hideaki attended the event as the Chief Guest while Consul of Georgia in Sri Lanka Dian Gomes delivered a speech on resilience as the keynote speaker.

In his inaugural address, the newly-appointed President of JASTECA Chandana Amaratunga said that he strongly believed in the vision and mission of JASTECA and pledged to focus his efforts to build a cultural, business, and trade alliance between Sri Lanka and Japan. 

Further, he mentioned that he would put his best foot forward accompanied by the team to expand the capacity of JASTECA in transforming business management through AI, IoT, LEAN management, strategic CSR projects, and cultural activities.

Mangala Samarajeewa, Nirosh De Silva, and Anuruddha Gamage were inducted as the Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents respectively. Tyrell Roche was inducted as the Treasurer while Priyantha Herath was inducted as the Assistant Treasurer for the period. 

The 36th Annual General Meeting turned a new leaf in JASTECA’s 36 years of existence with the appointment of the first female General Secretary to the organisation, with Gayani Punchihewa being inducted as the General Secretary while Dulanjana Silva was inducted as the Assistant Secretary. 

Chethana Liyanage, Dr. Neil Bogahalande, Dr. Sarath Buddhadasa, Parakrama Jayatissa, and Lasantha Wickremesooriya were inducted as Executive Committee members. 

The event was successfully concluded having established an unshakable vision to serve the country to its maximum capacity.
