After testifying before the special Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC), Sisira Mendis, the Chief of National Intelligence has handed over his resignation from the service which will take effect immediately.
His resignation has come after President Maithripala Sirisena had called an emergency Cabinet Meeting last night (07) at which he stated that any Police, military or intelligence personnel will be allowed to testify before the PSC.
There had been reports prior to this incident that the Chief of National Intelligence had been removed from his post, however, it was reported today(08) by the Defence Secretary, retired General Shantha Kottegoda that Mendis had resigned a short while ago.Chief of National Intelligence resigns
