Republic of China was still leading the overall medals tally with 40 medals by afternoon on Tuesday, August 21, the fourth-day of the 18th Asian Games now being held in Indonesia.
Twenty (20) nations have already won at least a single medal with Singapore in the bottom of the list with a bronze medal.
What happened in previous Games?
At the previous Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea in 2014, the final medals tally was led by China (a total of 345 medals including 151 golds), followed by hosts South Korea (228, 79) and Japan (200, 47).
There were 14 World and 27 Asian records that were broken during those Games.
Sri Lanka was placed 27th out of the 45 participating nations, out of which 37 nations could win at least a single medal.
In 2014 in Incheon, Sri Lanka won a gold and a bronze medal each, with both those medals coming in cricket. Lahiru Thirimanne led Sri Lanka to the gold-medal win while Afghanistan and Bangladesh winning the silver and bronze.
Chamari Atapattu’s Sri Lanka women’s cricket team won the bronze. Pakistan won the gold while Bangladeshi women won the silver medal.
