CID, CCD summon online ‘aragalaya’ activists

BY Dinitha Rathnayake    Social media activists involved in the “aragalaya” (struggle) were summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday (21) for questioning. Speaking to The Morning, Avishka Viraj Konara, who was an activist in the “aragalaya” and is a social media activist, said that he had been asked to come to the CID  at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday, based on allegations that he had entered the Prime Minister’s office by force on 13 July and damaged property. Additionally, Pasindu Madhushanka Jayasinghe, who was an active member of the struggle, has also been summoned to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) on the same day, but the reason for his summoning had not been disclosed. Meanwhile, the CID has also questioned journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama regarding a statement made by Dr. Anuja Jayasinghe that the moonstone has been removed from the Ruwanweliseya and a glass stone has been installed instead, and about gems being stolen from the location. This was according to an order obtained by the Colombo Fort Police. It is reported that the CID has requested the video containing the unedited footage of the relevant video from Samarawickrama. In line with that request, Samarawickrama has taken steps to hand over the relevant video.
