The Additional Magistrate of Colombo Lochani Abeywickrama has expressed that because the people’s right to expression, right to protest and freedom of speech are constitutionally protected, Quarantine Law should not overpower such rights of the people.
Abeywickrama made these statements in the courtroom today (17) when the case filed against the Propaganda Secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party by the Mutuwal Police was heard.
Mutuwal Police had filed a case against the Secretary for engaging in a protest which sought to shed light on how the lives of the fishing communities were affected by the X-Press Pearl tragedy.
