Complaint lodged about death threat to Aruna News Editor

By Hemantha Liyanapathirana A complaint has been lodged with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) with regard to a phone threat against the life of Aruna News Editor Chaminda Senarathna. Senaratne claims that he received the said threats on the afternoon of last Friday (18), when he was in his office, via phone numbers 0712293495 and 00916282807305. The caller had said: “You are slinging mud at our SP sir and (we) will not let you live longer than three more weeks.” In addition, the caller had claimed that Senaratne’s area of residence and house have been identified, and had told the latter to keep his house cleaned and that the latter will not be allowed to celebrate the Sinhala Tamil New Year. Senaratne had requested the IGP to investigate the reasons that have led to these threats against him, and to ensure the safety of his wife and three children.
