The Weligama Public Health Department states that steps have been taken to destroy the stock of contaminated dhal at the Weligama Co-operative Store.
The Health Department also said that it had acted on the information received that a stock of lentils unfit for human consumption had been stored for sale.
According to the forensic reports regarding the stock of dhal, it was determined that this stock of dhal is not suitable for human consumption.
Accordingly, 3,150 kilos of dhal were destroyed at the Kapparathota compost manure yard in Weligama yesterday (01) under the supervision of officers from the Weligama Public Health Medical Office with the participation of the officers of the Co-operative Society.
