Court order prevents Nimal Siripala de Silva from being stripped of SLFP positions

07 Jun 2022

The Colombo District Court today (07) issued an enjoining order preventing Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva from being stripped of all party positions from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP). De Silva was recently appointed as the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation. Earlier, SLFP Chairman and former President Maithripala Sirisena stated that SLFP MPs who accept ministerial portfolios will be removed from the party immediately. Sirisena had further reiterated that the SLFP Central Committee had only decided to support the positive actions taken by the government while remaining in the opposition and that as a collective decision, none of the SLFP MPs were to accept any ministerial portfolios, and if any MP was to accept a portfolio, they would be removed from the party with immediate effect.
