Covid-19: NOCPCO ready with contingency plan for festive season

26 Nov 2021

The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) is compelled to be ready with contingency plans in the event of any sudden surge of new Covid-19 cases given that the festive season is approaching.  General Shavendra Silva, NOCPCO Head and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army expressed the same at the routine NOCPCO Task Force meeting held yesterday (25). “Continued adherence to standard health protocols, being repeatedly reminded by respective authorities is needed to be given due attention without forcing authorities for any lockdowns,” he said. Similarly, it was mentioned that the vaccination programme would also continue for school children and also the inoculation of the booster doses, while simultaneously educating the public on any vulnerable outbreak in coming months during the festive season. The NOCPCO head also added that around 700 positive cases are identified at present per day with 20-30 deaths per day. Compared to the last week, Silva noted an increase in numbers.
