Covid-19 preventive measures ; Ministry looking at improvements

Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday (18) called in for a special performance review committee meeting to take decisions on specific measures to be taken to control the spread of Covid-19 in the present climate.

A committee of medical administrators, administrative service officers, and specialist physicians chaired by Minister of Health Wanniarachchi, yesterday gathered to discuss the next steps that need to be taken to control the spread of Covid-19 in the present community health environment.

“Given the present situation that the country is facing, it is the responsibility of the Department of Health to monitor whether the economic centres, rental homes, schools, and industrial processing zones (BOI [Board of Investment]) in the Western Province are complying with the health guidelines on the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country and whether they are adhering to the updated health guidelines that have been issued,” Wanniarachchi stated.

The committee also discussed increasing the number of beds at Covid-19 treatment centres, taking action to increase the number of beds in the emergency medical service, taking action to ensure maximum accuracy of PCR tests performed in laboratories, and training post-internship medical officers on Covid-19 emergency medical treatment services.

The Minister of Health instructed the officials to pay full attention to the health care of all health staff and to improve their transport, accommodation, and other infrastructure facilities.

State Minister of Drug Production, Supply, and Regulation Channa Jayasumana; State Minister of Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurvedic Hospitals Development, and Community Health Sisira Jayakody; Secretary to the Ministry of Health Maj. Gen. Sanjeewa Munasinghe; Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena; and additional secretaries and deputy directors general of health services, specialists, and other officials were present at the discussion.
