The latest Covid 19 lineage is BA5 and it is the most transmissible and immune-evasive lineage of the covid 19 virus detected since the pandemic began, says University of Sri Jayewardenepura Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit Director Dr. Chandima Jeewandara in a twitter post today (27).
"We're all distracted, but there is still a pandemic happening. The latest Covid-19 lineage BA5 is the most transmissible and immune-evasive lineage detected since the pandemic began and it's not mild," the tweet mentioned.
He further noted that the new variant has already been detected in 63 countries to date, although it has not been detected in Sri Lanka as yet.
