Covid-19 : Subclusters from two clusters: Dr. Samaraweera

09 Nov 2020

  • All new cases from Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters
  • Around 600,000 PCR tests conducted so far
By Maheesha Mudugamuwa  Despite new Covid-19 patients being reported from all around the country every day, Ministry of Health Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera reiterated that the cases reported so far were either from the two large clusters that erupted recently in Peliyagoda and Minuwangoda or from its subclusters.  "The cases reported so far around other parts of the island following the detection of the Peliyagoda and Minuwangoda clusters, were from extended subclusters created from the original two clusters," he told the media yesterday (8).  "We have so far conducted around 600,000 PCR tests and at present, over 13,000 Covid-19-positive cases have been reported in the country. Among them, nearly 9,000 patients are being treated at hospitals," he added. Dr. Samaraweera said the areas where quarantine curfew was lifted today (9) would not be safe and therefore urged the public to stay at home as much as possible and to avoid exposure to society.  He added that the lifting of quarantine curfew in some areas does not imply that those areas are safe.  "We strictly advise the public to restrict movement and stay at home," he said.  He urged the public to take the necessary precautions and added that it has a huge responsibility in containing the virus.
