22 Dec 2019

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has made overtime payments to its staff for the month of November amounting to Rs. 1.9 billion. Sources at the Ministry of Power and Energy said that these payments had been paid to many of the auxiliary staff who were on the payroll without proper job descriptions. Minister of Power and Energy Mahinda Amaraweera, upon learning of the mismanagement of resources and the cost to the Government in extra funds to maintain such a huge staff, had requested the CPC General Manager to submit a detailed report on the payments. The report was presented to the Minister on Friday (20) evening. Accordingly, Amaraweera is to monitor whether government funds had been misused in the form of making excessive overtime payments to the CPC staff in the previous month. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the CPC has 390 vacancies.
