The minor cracks which have been appearing for almost a year on the Victoria Dam have been resealed fully, The Morning learnt.
“The small cracks pose no danger as they have been rectified with special expertise and equipment,” Mahaweli Authority Director General Eng. Sunil Perera told The Morning.
He said the cracks, known as “air cracks”, first appeared around a year ago.
“They are minor cracks and are called air cracks as they only appear on the surface of the dam and do not go through,” he said, noting that all traffic had been stopped from travelling over the dam.
“A special type of cement imported from Germany was used for this purpose,” he said.
