Cricket players humiliated due to lack of discipline: Arjuna Ranatunga

02 Jul 2021

Former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain Arjuna Ranatunga says that the game of cricket is currently being humiliated in Sri Lanka. Arjuna Ranatunga says that there has been a lot of talk about losing matches as well as the discipline of the players and that only players who actually played for the country were in the team when he was the captain. He said that he was able to win the World Cup because of such a team, adding that the discipline of the current players has deteriorated. "Once upon a time we were ashamed to go out when we lost a game. There is no such thing today. Under these circumstances cricket can never be bettered," he said. "I have sent some players home. I have banned some. Cricket is not just about hitting the ball with the bat. Cricket is the administration of an entire player. I urge everyone not to embarrass our players. That's how we discipline the wrongdoers. Don't let every player get into this situation," Ranatunga said.
