The statue of the late D.A. Rajapaksa in Tangalle that was destroyed during the 9 May mayhem has been re-installed and is expected to be unveiled today (6).
The new statue was reportedly taken to its original place of installation – by the side of the road in Mahawela – from Carlton House in Tangalle by a group of persons including MP Namal Rajapaksa on Thursday (3).
The late Minister D.A. Rajapaksa is the father of former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa.
Both Mahinda and Gotabaya and other family members are expected to attend the unveiling of the new statue today, according to news reports.
Namal meanwhile has said that he believes that those responsible for the dismantling of the statue will be punished by the law.
