A decision will be taken today to reopen the 56 Cancer Ward of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, Galle, as it had been closed temporarily due to a COVID-19 outbreak, Acting Director of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Nishani Obeysekera said.
She said that 11 patients from Ward 56 Cancer Ward are currently being quarantined in the ward and five patients have been sent home by ambulance for self quarantine.
"Currently the situation in the cancer ward is under control. None of the hospital staff in these wards were infected with COVID-19 because the hospital staff used protective equipment and the risk was reduced. Ward 56, which is currently closed, will be reopened according to a decision taken today," she said.
