Writes to President requesting continuation of expansion
Principal and Deputy Principals sign letter
By Buddhika SamaraweeraThe School Development Committee (SDC) and the Management Committee of Devi Balika Vidyalaya in Colombo have sent a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa requesting him to continue the project to merge part of the Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo, with the Sri Wijayarama Maha Vidyalaya in Udahamulla.In the letter, they have pointed out to the President that the said project would bring progressive results to the school. They also pointed out that if the project is implemented, the school would be able to double the number of students currently studying in the science section of the school annually. Members of the said committees have further mentioned in the letter that the attempt made to obtain a playground for this school for 68 years would also be fulfilled if this project is implemented.“The implementation of this project is being carried out jointly by the SDC and the Management Committee along with the Ministry of Education and therefore we request that it be continued,” the letter read.The letter has been signed by Devi Balika Vidyalaya Principal P.K. Samarasinghe; Deputy Principal (Administration) Lakshmi Dahanayake; Deputy Principal (Education) D.B. Siriwardana; Additional Principals N.H. Kuruppu, D.P. Wijeratne, and Priyantha Rodrigo; Sectional Head (Physics) Sakura Dodampegamage; Sectional Head (Biology) Pushparani Gamage; Sectional Head (Technology) Thusitha Abayawardena; and another 15 members who represent the two said committees.It was recently revealed that a high-profile business tycoon was making a donation for the premises of the Sri Wijayarama Maha Vidyalaya to be developed to accommodate the additional Advanced Level (A/L) classrooms of the Devi Balika Vidyalaya.Following initial plans to merge the Sri Wijayarama Maha Vidyalaya with the Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, Nugegoda, Minister of Education Prof. G.L. Peiris revealed plans on merging the Devi Balika Vidyalaya with the Sri Wijayarama Maha Vidyalaya.Devi Balika Vidyalaya Protection Front President Dayani Panagoda was not available for immediate comment.
