Dr Jasinghe arrives at BIA for travel without vaccination card

04 Oct 2021

Ministry of Environment Secretary Dr Anil Jasinghe arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night (03) for a flight to South Korea, where he was denied boarding as he did not have his Covid-19 vaccination card in his possession, The Morning learns. Ministry sources told The Morning that Dr Jasinghe usually carries his vaccination card, but due to a "human error", Dr Jasinghe had forgotten his vaccination card at home. Another reason for Dr Jasinghe not to have his vaccination card was that South Korea does not insist on Covid-19 vaccines for travellers. Dr Jasinghe was eventually granted permission to board the aircraft after an image of the vaccination card was sent to him via a WhatsApp message. Dr. Jasinghe, together with Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera were travelling to South Korea to attend the 4th Asia-Pacific Environment Ministerial and Environmental Institutions Meeting of the United Nations Environment Programme due to be held on the 6th and 7th of October.
