Draft 21st Amendment to be finalized this week

The draft of the proposed 21st Amendment to the Constitution is to be finalized by the end of this week and presented to the Cabinet of Ministers once the translations of the piece of legislation is completed, The Morning reliably learnt.

The decision was taken following a meeting today (18) between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Attorney General, Legal Draftsman along with MPs Susil Premajayantha and President’s Counsel Wijedasa Rajapakshe regarding the proposed constitutional amendment.

“The final draft of the amendment is due to be finalized by the end of the week,” an official from the Prime Minister’s Office told The Morning.

The proposed 21st Amendment is aimed at repealing the controversial 20th Amendment to the Constitution while reverting to the 19th Amendment.
