13 Sep 2021

By Dinitha Rathnayake An influential State Minister has entered the Welikada Prison premises by force under the influence of alcohol to allow his friends to visit and view the gallows, well-placed sources told The Morning yesterday (12). According to the sources, the State Minister’s friends had also been drunk, with many of them wearing shorts, and the State Minister, who is from a political family, carrying a pistol in his hand. “They were so drunk that some of them even fell on the ground,” a source said. Prison sources further reveal that the group had verbally abused the prison officials who had tried to stop them. However, when contacted, Prison Media Spokesman Commissioner Chandana Ekanayake said he doesn't know anything about this incident.
