Earth tremor in Kandy: No damages, probe continues

There have been no casualties or damage to property as a result of the slight seismic tremor felt in Kandy last Saturday (29) night, The Morning learnt.

Disaster Management Center Director General Major General (Retd.) Sudantha Ranasinghe told The Morning that no complaints had been received concerning the tremor.

“There have been no casualties or damages to property or infrastructure due to the small tremor that was felt on Saturday night.”

Meanwhile, the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) has deployed a team of seismologists to identify the location and cause of the tremor.

“We have sent a crew of seismologists to the area where the tremor was felt to find its focal point and reason,” GSMB Senior Director of Geology Udaya De Silva told The Morning.

He said the seismic tremor was felt in the Kundasale region in the Kandy.
